Tire Discounters Founder Chip Wood is named Tire Dealer of the Year

Cincinnati-based entrepreneur takes home tire industry’s most prestigious honor

CINCINNATI, OHIO (Sept. 14, 2020) - The year was 1976. Armed with $5,000 in hard-earned savings and a matching loan from his father, Chip Wood, then 22 years old, opened his first tire store - a former gas station on the east side of Cincinnati, complete with missing windows and a garage door that was too small to accommodate a car.

Nearly 45 years later, Wood’s dealership, family-owned Tire Discounters, has evolved into one of the United States’ 10 largest independent tire store chains with more than 135 stores throughout six states and growing.

In recognition of his remarkable achievements and business acumen, Modern Tire Dealer magazine, the tire industry’s leading publication, has named Wood its 2020 Tire Dealer of the Year. Established in 1993, MTD’s Tire Dealer of the Year award is the oldest, most prestigious honor of its kind.

“This award reflects every Tire Discounters employee through the years that dedicated themselves every day to delivering outstanding customers service. I’m proud to accept this award in honor of my past and present Tire Discounters family of employees,” Chip Wood, Tire Discounters Founder.

“Through a laser-like focus on operational excellence, envelope-pushing marketing and an uncompromising commitment to customer satisfaction, Chip has built a vibrant, state-of-the-art business that has long occupied a prominent position on the very cutting edge of tire and auto service retailing,” says MTD Publisher Greg Smith. “We are extremely honored to welcome him into the very elite club of MTD Tire Dealer of the Year award recipients,” adds Smith.

As part of the Tire Dealer of the Year award program, a significant monetary donation will be made in Chip’s name to May We Help, a Cincinnati-based non-profit that develops custom, life-enhancing devices for people with disabilities.
